The match in the first round of the Wimbledon men’s tournament between the Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov and the Japanese Sho Shimabukuro was temporarily interrupted on Wednesday by the irruption on court number 18 of two activists from the environmental organization “Just Stop Oil”.

The British government targeted

A man and a woman entered the lawn throwing orange glitter confetti, “harmless to the environment”, the association said in a press release, and puzzle pieces, and the man then went to sit down in a service box, near the net. They were evacuated by the security service before agents of the organization cleaned the lawn. Just Stop Oil is an organization that campaigns for the British government to prohibit the exploitation of new oil or natural gas deposits.

It has already organized several pacifist actions during high-profile sporting events, including the traditional cricket match betweenAustralia and England, last week, or the world championships of snooker, a variant of billiards very popular in Great Britain. Wimbledon organizers had claimed before the start of the tournament that security had been tightened to prevent such actions.
