ATLANTA, Ga. (CBS46) — Atlanta’s iconic Rainbow Crosswalk has been vandalized again, according to the Atlanta Police Department.
Officer says someone spray painted a swastika at the intersection of 10th and Piedmont this week and the LGBTQ Liaison Unit was briefed by Area 5 units regarding the speech of hate.
Police said the ATL Department of Transportation responded to eliminate the vandalism with a pressure washer and investigators are currently working out details surrounding the incident.
“Atlanta Police immediately notified the Mayor’s office of the matter, and then ATL DOT dispatched a team – in the rain – to remove the disguised act of vandalism from our street,” said the press secretary of the Atlanta Police Department, Michael Smith. “We thank the women and men of ATLDOT and APD for erasing the hatred that has no place in our city in such a quick and effective way.”
The police are still investigating.
