Speaking to Nick Grimshaw and Angela Hartnett on the Dish podcast, Dermot and Alison explained that they had originally planned to meet at her house to tape the show, when her son fell ill.

“So I was going to cancel Dermot because Aidan had a real sore throat. And I just thought, you know what, I’m just going to take Aidan to the doctor, you know, Dermot can relax in the house, whatever, Alison explained.

‘Anyway, next thing I know he said, ‘I’m coming with you.’ I was like, “No, you really don’t need to come with me”, “No, I’m coming with you.” Oh my god, that was hilarious.

“We arrived at the doctors, they were all so impressed with Dermot, walked into the doctors, he’s sitting in the doctors, we’re waiting for the doctor, he walks into the doctors-” before Dermot continued, “I l ‘ did ‘I didn’t think I was going to go see the doctor, but at that point I was like, for a penny for a pound.

Alison then continued, “I was like, this is Aidan’s TV dad. We all sat down. So we do the, obviously he’s trying to explain what’s wrong with that throat, and she talks about it.

“And then all I remember is Dermot getting measured by the doctor because he wants to know how tall he is.”

Dermot and Alison reassured listeners that Aidan had been prescribed antibiotics for his sore throat, but then got into a discussion about who was bigger with the GP.

“Once the initial danger passed and we knew he might need some antibiotics, and Alison was a full-fledged Jamaican mum, she said, ‘Can you sign him? or can’t you sign it? What’s going on here?” Dermot added.

“Alison was basically writing the prescription for him, in the thing. Wow, so impressive. And then I looked up – and me and Alison always had a thing about who’s bigger and I was like, “The doctor is, is that right?” she said, yeah. And so it was like, “Can I measure my height?”

Alison insisted that Dermot was five feet and seven inches tall, but he replied that he was actually two inches taller.

Continuing their hilarious story, the couple then recalled the moment they went to the pharmacy together in a “tiny suburb of Birmingham”.

Dermot explained: “We went to the drugstore and we were in the drugstore, there were three of us in the drugstore, and the woman comes out, Mrs. Perkins, and I turn around and at that point we’re kind of like, we…”

Alison then continued, “You had a job in the actual pharmacy”, Dermot repeatedly asking, “Are you Mrs. Perkins?” For 15 minutes.

“We kept doing everyone. “Mrs. Smith?” Alison then continued, leaving hosts Nick and Angela in hysterics.

During the interview, Alison and Dermot also talked about their annual This Morning Christmas party, where they were joined by surprise guests James Blunt and Chris Evans.

The pair revealed the two stars arrived with a group of contest winners, with Dermot playing Alison with a double Baileys.

Alison said: “I said, don’t give me alcohol.”, Dermot adding: “Just for the record, a double Baileys doesn’t really count.”

“I was like, Dermot, listen, I don’t want to drink, I just want to keep it nice and cool. Right away-” said Alison as Dermot confessed he was a “great enabler”.

Alison admitted she was “doing reels on the table” before joining Chris and James for a single.

Dermot revealed, “And then Blunt did a French exit, he was like, guys, I gotta go, thank you so much, I gotta go.” Help yourself to everything, but I really have to go,” before Alison revealed: “And then he left, it’s on the house.
