Chris Hemsworth says his wife called his chest muscles ‘too much’

Many Chris Hemsworth fans are heading to theaters to take a look at the Aussie star’s massive muscles in Thor: Love and Thunderbut his own wife, Elsa Pataky, could do without.

“My wife was like, ‘Bleh, that’s too much,'” Hemsworth said USA today during a recent interview ahead of the Marvel movie’s release. “There are a lot of my male friends who say, ‘Yeah! but a lot of friends and family say ‘yuck’.”

Director Taika Waititi, however, was a huge fan. “It’s crazy how big Chris has gotten for this,” he said. “He’s huge already, but when I saw his arms, they were twice as big as normal, as wide as my head. Coaches and such ask me how he’s doing? But it’s only natural.”

When asked how he got pumped up for the role, Chris Hemsworth mostly attributed boredom during the pandemic shutdowns. β€œIt came from boredom, sitting in the COVID lockdown was like a prison,” Hemsworth said. To combat his restlessness, the actor swam, lifted weights and trained in martial arts. To fuel those workouts, Hemsworth said he ate about 6,000 calories a day. “It was practice, eat, practice, eat. Nothing else to do. Then I came in for the movie bigger than I’ve ever been.”

He continued: “It was one thing to train and eat so much and sleep all day. Doing that and then a fixed 12 hour day was something different. It was horrible. I won’t do it. more. They can give me a beefy muscle suit next time. I’m done. Pataky’s probably glad to hear that!”
