The couple have now been married since 2012, but it wasn’t exactly love at first sight for Dawn. The two first met at her 30th birthday party in 2011, and actor/comedian Nick Frost encouraged Chris to become friends with Dawn on Facebook.

Dawn was unimpressed and turned down his friend request three times, but he had to do something to change her mind and even fell in love with her cat.

A year after they met, the couple got married after 7 months of engagement. Still the comedian, Chris announced the wedding with his usual wry humor in a tweet, in writing:

“I miss all this happiness and sex so much. I’m getting married.”

The two tied the knot after a three-day party in a small, intimate ceremony in their garden. Dawn wore a pretty white dress with a fitted bodice covered in beaded flowers.

In an unconventional move, Dawn kept her maiden name but adapted it to her husband’s by adding the traditional Irish “O”. Chris explained:

“She didn’t want to give her name. But she also thought she wanted to take something from her husband, you know, and the O is hugely significant. O only exists in Ireland.”
