Jamaica advance to gold medal game for first time in history

Jamaica will contest a Commonwealth Games final for the first time in their history after a record 67-51 win over New Zealand in the semi-finals on Saturday.

The team followed up their outstanding victory in the final against Australia with another clinical performance in the semi-finals.

Jamaica dominated defensively early on and held a 36-22 halftime lead over the Silver Ferns. Shamera Sterling and Latanya Wilson set the tone in the circle, with Jodi-Ann Ward and Nicole Dixon-Rochester rounding them out.

Captain Jhaniele Fowler made 54 of her 54 attempts, before resting in the final minutes, and the whole team will now be watching the second semi-final at 2:30 p.m.

England go to court for a rematch of the 2018 final and must beat Australia to ensure they are the ones who face Jamaica in Sunday’s goalscoring medal game.

More soon…
