Ex-NFL player repeatedly slammed with racial slurs by Miami business owner

MIAMI – Witness video recorded in March and released Wednesday shows a man shouting racial slurs at former NFL player and former Virginia Tech Jadon James Gayle in Miami.

Gayle, director of business development at the Infinity Sports Institute, identified the man as the owner of his employer’s commercial space at 161 NE 24 St.

Gayle said the man was ‘very aggressive’ and told a Hispanic woman who was near him ‘to go eat [expletive]” beans and rice.

“I was very scared, I was humiliated,” Gayle said Wednesday. “I didn’t necessarily know what to do because I’ve never been in such a situation.”

The owner was upset with a request for a mold test. Since the dispute escalated, Hector Maradiaga, the chief executive of Infinity Sports Institute, released a statement on Thursday saying he had retained an attorney to file a lawsuit.

“It is appalling, disgusting and hurtful to see one of our team members being treated as such,” Maradiaga said, adding that the institute’s priority is to create “an inclusive, safe and private environment” for students. customers and employees.

Maradiaga also said that as a minority business owner in Miami, the owner’s actions were both hurtful and unacceptable.

“We have seen this group treat their other tenants with the same disdain and we cannot stand this. It’s not the Miami we’re trying to create,” Maradiaga said.

Video from another witness shows the homeowner exiting the property while holding a sample of the drywall that was to be tested for mold and getting into a Jeep while another man also tried to calm him down.

“I’m really worried about retaliation,” Gayle said. “I was afraid of reprisals every time I go to my car. I don’t know necessarily, is he going to do something to me? Does he come back?

The owner declined to comment.
