Finland’s Sanna Marin faces backlash after leaked video – POLITICO

Of all the European leaders to party with, you’ll probably have the most fun with Finland’s Prime Minister Sanna Marin.

Finnish newspaper Iltalehti reported on Wednesday that in new videos posted on social media, the Prime Minister was spotted partying with several Finnish personalities, including MP Ilmari Nurminen and media presenter Tinni Wikström.

In the leaked footage, spread across several clips on Instagram Stories, Marin is seen dancing exuberantly with several friends, and people are heard in the background shouting about cocaine, according to Finnish media.

Finnish MP Mikko Kärnä, from the Center Party, Marin’s coalition partner, urged the prime minister to take a drug test and publish the results. “The people are also entitled to expect this from their prime minister,” he added. tweeted.

At a Thursday morning press conference, Marin denied using drugs and said she had “nothing to cover up or hide.”

“I danced, sang, celebrated, did legal things,” the prime minister said. Marin added that she didn’t drink much.

She also hit the leaker. “I was confident that since the videos are private and released at a private event, they would not be released,” Marin said. “It’s a shame they were published.”

The clips received a mixed reaction online, with some criticism castigate Marin for what they say is irresponsible behavior, while others see a potential boost in popularity for the 36-year-old prime minister.

Marin was criticized last December for spending a night out shortly after a government colleague tested positive for coronavirus.
