Gloria Estefan Responds to Jennifer Lopez’s ‘Halftime’ Comments

During a recent appearance on “Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen,” Estefan said she hadn’t seen Lopez’s “Halftime” documentary, which explores her preparation for the big performance. Estefan said she heard about the film, including Lopez saying in the draft that co-headlining the halftime show with Shakira was “the worst idea in the world” because it was hard to integrate two performers in such a short show.

“You have about 12 minutes or something to get things up and down on set. So could you do it with one person?” Estefan said. “Yeah, but I think they wanted to have a Miami and Latin extravaganza. They tried to pack in as much as they could, and they killed it.”

She said she turned down the opportunity to go on the show with the couple and would only have come out and performed the opening lyrics to her hit, ‘Conga’, if she had accepted. .

“Imagine what J. Lo would have said if I had been third?” Estefan said, also joking that she didn’t want to diet in December in order to be ready for the Super Bowl in February. .

Guest performers with Lopez and Shakira included J Balvin, Bad Bunny and Lopez’s child, Emme Muñiz.

Estefan appeared on Cohen’s show with her “Father of the Bride” co-star Andy Garcia.
