Haaland sets new record as City climb back to second place

Erling Haaland became the fastest player to reach 20 Premier League goals in a season as Manchester City beat Leeds 3-1 to take second place, five points behind Arsenal.

Leeds provided a stern challenge for most of the first half before City took the lead just before the break through Rodri.

Haaland, born in Leeds and a fan of the club since childhood, didn’t celebrate his two second-half goals but was ruthless as always, hitting the 20-goal milestone in 14 games.

He couldn’t miss for his first, set up in front of an open goal by Jack Grealish, who himself had missed a hat-trick of good chances in the opening 45 minutes.

Grealish was once again the provider for Haaland’s second, which he inserted from close range after a deflection to give Leeds too much of a deficit to overcome.

Leeds netted one over Pascal Struijk’s header from a corner and Joe Gelhardt was close within a second.

City fell back to second place Newcastle after 15 goals.

The relegation battle sees Leeds in 15th place on 15 points and one of 11 teams separated by just eight points.
