Man arrested for assaulting a police officer dies suddenly in his cell
A man has died after being arrested for allegedly assaulting a police officer in northern New South Wales.
Richmond Police District officers were called to a show ground on Summerland Way at the Casino following reports that a man was assaulted around 11am on Sunday.
Police will allege that upon arriving at the exhibition site, a 48-year-old man assaulted a police officer.
The man was arrested and taken to the Casino police station.

While in custody, the man lost consciousness.
New South Wales police and paramedics attempted to revive the man, but he died in custody.
A critical incident team from the State Crime Command Homicide Squad will now investigate all of the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
The inquest will be independently reviewed and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
