Minnesota Wild places Marcus Foligno on IR

After calling back a pair of forwards yesterday, the Wild made two more roster changes today. They announced the recall of defender Andrej Sustr of AHL Iowa with winger Marcus Foligno be placed on injured reserve to create a roster room for the promotion of Sustr.
Sustr is in his first season with Minnesota after signing a two-way deal with them early in free agency. It’s the 32-year-old’s second recall of the month, despite not seeing any NHL action in the week and a half he spent earlier. Sustr has six points in 20 AHL games this season and will likely be a reserve defenseman when called up, and the Wild now have eight guards on their active roster.
As for Foligno, the veteran had a bit of a tough year. He missed time with an upper-body injury earlier this season while a lower-body issue will prevent him this time around. The 31-year-old has scored 23 goals in 2021-22 but has only managed three so far this season in 27 games, despite leading the team with 90 hits. Michael Russo of The Athletic notes (Twitter link) that Foligno’s placement is backdated to Dec. 21 so he can be activated for Thursday’s game against Dallas if he’s ready to return.
