Opossum found in girl’s bathroom at Brevard Elementary School


BREVARD COUNTY, Florida. –A possum was found in a girl’s bathroom at Indianantic Elementary School on Tuesday, prompting a school resource assistant to take action, according to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said school resource assistant Matt Swartz arrived at school Tuesday morning, assuming “it was just going to be another normal day.”

However, after the bell rang, Swartz learned that an “intruder” had barricaded himself in the girl’s bathroom, deputies said.

Swartz found a possum in the bathroom and set up a perimeter with crime scene tape to make sure the students stayed safe, the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies said Swartz blocked the gate and stood guard until a team from Wild Florida Rescue arrived to capture and remove the opossum.

“As you can see, Deputy Swartz had a little fun with the incident, and our friends at Wild Florida Rescue did what they do best…protect and save the animals in our community! !” wrote the sheriff’s office on its Facebook page.
