Pierce Brosnan finds grandparents ‘intoxicating’ – 2 grandchildren are half-orphaned when adopted daughter dies

Pierce Brosnan has lived through many tragic events, including the death of his wife and daughter. But now, the actor seems to have found happiness. Here are the details of Brosnan’s life, including his role as a proud grandfather.

Irish actor and film producer Pierce Brosnan has exchanged wedding vows twice. The Hollywood star’s first marriage was to Australian actress Cassandra Harris.

They first met in the 1970s, and after many years the former couple married in December 1980. Three years later, Brosnan and Cassandra welcomed their only son, Sean.

They lived happily as a family of three until 1986, when the ‘James Bond’ star adopted his wife’s two children from a previous relationship, Charlotte and Christopher, following the death of their father, Dermot Harris.

Brosnan later revealed that he and his adopted children clicked as family. The Irish actor and his family would live happily ever after until 1987 when tragedy struck. Cassandra was diagnosed with cancer after doctors discovered a malignant tumor in her ovaries.

It was devastating for the family, but they had to do everything possible to save the actress’ life. Brosnan said Cassandra and the family fought from day one.

Indeed, it was a difficult time, but luckily the actor was always by his wife’s side. Over the next year and a half, Cassandra would undergo eight operations and chemotherapy; still, there was a lot of pain.

Illness and drugs took a toll on the actress, causing her to lose her hair and feel rotten. But even though Cassandra was very sick, she did her best to be strong for the family, especially her children.

She watched from her chair as they screamed and jumped into the pool at home. Unfortunately, it was only a matter of time before it ran out. After a four-year battle with illness, Cassandra died in December 1991.

Cassandra’s death made Brosnan a single father. It wasn’t an easy feat, but the ‘Black Adam’ star had to stay strong for his kids.

For the Hollywood icon, being a father was a huge but satisfying responsibility. Thus, he raised his children alone while dealing with the death of his wife for the next ten years before falling in love again.

Brosnan found love in the arms of his second wife and journalist Keely Shaye Smith. After dating for a while, the couple walked down the aisle in 2001 and welcomed two children together, Paris and Dylan.

A few years later, the ‘Mamma Mia’ actor also became a grandfather for the first time after his adopted daughter, Charlotte, welcomed two children, Isabella and Lucas, with her husband, Alex Smith.

After many years of grieving for his late wife, Brosnan seems to have finally found happiness. Unfortunately, it was only a matter of time before tragedy struck again. On June 28, 2013, the actor lost his daughter Charlotte to ovarian cancer, the same disease that claimed her mother’s life.

She was only 41 and her death meant that Isabel and Lucas had become semi-orphans. It was heartbreaking for Brosnan as his daughter’s death brought back painful memories. Following Charlotte’s death, the actor released a statement which read:

“On June 28 at 2 p.m., my darling daughter, Charlotte Emily, passed away from ovarian cancer. She was surrounded by her husband Alex, children Isabella and Lucas, and brothers Christopher and Sean.”

“Charlotte fought her cancer with grace and humility, courage and dignity. Our hearts are heavy with the loss of our beautiful daughter. We pray for her and that the cure of this miserable disease is at hand,” he said. he concluded.

After Charlotte’s death, many family members shared what an incredible person the deceased was and how she had a significant impact on her children, including one of Charlotte’s close friends, Claire Beckwith. She noted:

“To their mom, Bella and Lucas were absolutely the pinnacle. They always had that for the rest of their lives, that their mom revered them.”

Beckwith further confessed that Charlotte wanted to give her family as much love as possible and was devoted to them. Other family friends like Nancy Ellison also revealed Charlotte to be a bubbly, gorgeous, and almost clumsy girl.

Indeed, losing such a soul was tragic for the entire Brosnan family. But, while mourning his daughter, Brosnan would receive good news. He had become a grandfather for the third time as his eldest son, Sean, welcomed a child, Marley May, with his wife, Sanja Banic.

After many complicated years filled with heartbreak and happy times, Brosnan learned to appreciate life and time spent with his family.

In addition to being a doting dad, the actor loves having grandkids. He once described himself as a “proud grandfather”. Brosnan has often spoken candidly about his grandchildren and how much he loves them.

In an April 2017 episode of “Live With Kelly and Ryan,” the proud grandpa opened up about his adorable granddaughter, Marley. In the words of Brosnan:

“She melts my heart. Such a joy to be a grandparent. There’s just something intoxicating and beautiful about it.”

Afterwards, Kelly asked the actor if it was possible to love grandchildren more than children, and Brosnan replied in the affirmative. He noted that this was so because of the time the grandchildren arrived.

According to the Hollywood icon, the grandchildren arrived at a time when they were known to be getting older. Hence the need to cherish these special moments with them.

Despite her busy schedule, Brosnan makes sure to spend time with her grandchildren. In February 2017, he was spotted cradling Marley as he strolled with the little girl’s parents.

Fans are thrilled to see the actor is finally in a happy place. Hopefully the smiles on his face will remain intact for a very long time.
