Prince William & Wife React after Elizabeth II Announces Camilla as Future Queen Consort

Queen Elizabeth II is the first British Monarch to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee. To commemorate her 70-year reign, she confirmed that Duchess Camilla would be Queen Consort.

On February 6, 1952, Elizabeth Alexandra Mary became Queen Elizabeth II. It’s been 70 years since her accession to the throne, and to celebrate such a milestone, she announced her “sincere wish” for Prince Charles’s wife to be the next Queen Consort.

Her announcement caused mixed reactions in the public and other Royal family members. The Royals have endured hardships throughout the years, and Camilla drove some of them. Here’s how future Queen Consort Camilla impacted Princes William and Harry’s relationships.

Prince Charles has been destined to become King of England since he was born in November 1948. Most people believed that Camilla Parker-Bowles, his wife of almost two decades, would be Queen when Charles became King.

However, Royal titles are complicated. For PR issues about Charles and Camilla’s marriage, she was supposed to become Princess Consort upon Charles’s accession.

It seemed like a “prudent” choice, mainly because Charles and Camilla are both divorced (his first wife was Diana, Princess of Wales, and her first husband was Andrew Parker-Bowles).

If that wasn’t enough, Charles and Camilla were part of arguably the most infamous romance in the Royals’ history: they had an affair even though they were both married.

Camilla currently goes by the title of Duchess of Cornwall instead of Princess of Wales for all these reasons. Still, Charles fought hard so that Camilla received full Queen status when the time was right.

On February 5, 2022, one day before Queen Elizabeth II celebrated 70 years on the throne; she announced she’d like Camilla to be Queen Consort once Prince Charles becomes King. The Queen wrote

“It is my sincere wish that, when that time comes, Camilla will be known as Queen Consort as she continues her own loyal service.”

The news probably didn’t sit well with some senior members of the Royal family, including Princes William and Harry. According to historian Robert Lacey, William and Harry were “sick to the back teeth” of their father trying to negotiate full Queen status for Camilla.

It is essential to point out that Camilla was one of the main reasons Diana and Charles divorced. However, William and Kate publicly reacted to the Platinum Jubilee’s statement.

After the Queen’s official Instagram account posted a photo of her letter, William and Kate “liked” it through their Instagram account, @DukeandDuchesofCambridge.

Other netizens took to the comment section to congratulate the Queen for celebrating 70 years on the throne and thank her for being an inspirational monarch for so long.

Not many commented on Camilla’s future Queen Consort status. A 2021 YouGov poll showed that only 13 percent of UK citizens wanted Camilla to take that title, and 41 percent preferred the Princess Consort title instead.

Although Camilla and Charles have been married since 2005, she has impacted William’s life for much longer. Diana’s bombshell 1995 BBC Panorama interview revealed how she explained her divorce from Charles to William.

She told him, “there were three of us in this marriage,” implying that Camilla was part of the reasons she could no longer be with Charles. Diana added that the pressures of the media were also a crucial factor in their separation.

According to Lacey, William would take his mother’s side during her arguments with Charles. He reportedly shouted at Charles, “I hate you, Papa,” and asked why he made Diana cry all the time.

That was not the only time Camilla interfered in William’s life. “Game of Crowns” author Christopher Anderson claimed that she tried to get the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to break up.

Camilla supposedly believed Kate was pretty but dim and “too lowly” to be a Royal. The Duchess of Cornwall asked Charles to convince William to end his relationship with Kate, added Anderson.

When Kate and William broke up in 2007, Camilla allegedly described the separation as “wise.” Now, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have been married for 11 years. They raise three kids, including the future King of England, Prince George.

Harry is working on a tell-all memoir that would aim at Camilla.

Meghan Markle’s situation was similar to Camilla’s when she married Prince Harry: a divorcee married into the Royal family after having a non-royal life.

Camilla supposedly took Meghan under her wing to help her guide her through the new chapter of her life, but things eventually turned sour.

In 2020, Camilla was upset at Meghan because the latter insisted on sharing photos of her the same day the former gave a speech on the 10th anniversary of the Women of the World Festival.

Camilla allegedly believed that Meghan broke the pledge not to overshadow her campaign against abuse. When Meghan and Harry quit as senior royals and moved to California, their relationship with Charles and Camilla seemingly broke down.

Harry and Meghan accused a member of their family of raising concerns about the potential skin color of Archie, their first child, during an interview with Oprah Winfrey. They didn’t name anyone, but sources believe Charles made the hurtful remarks.

Former Royal butler Paul Burrell revealed in September 2021 that Harry was working on a tell-all memoir that would aim at Camilla. It is still unclear if he will name who made the racist comments, but his publishers are pressuring him into doing it.

Charles is prepared for Harry’s memoir to contain unflattering comments about Camilla, so he reportedly wants William to do some “preemptive damage control” or stay neutral.

Although Clarence House wouldn’t admit it, they were let down by Harry and Meghan’s interview with Winfrey. A source claimed they didn’t think Camilla would ever forgive Meghan for what she did to Charles.

It is essential to remark that Harry and Meghan have yet to comment about Queen Elizabeth’s Jubilee statement and Camilla’s future Queen Consort title. The royals never cease to impress.
