Protesters have moved to shut down access to the White House correspondents’ dinner – but have so far failed in their efforts to keep journalists and politicians out.

Having promised to block all entry to the event, activists who took issue with Biden’s recent endorsement of several oil projects were seen trying to block guests’ arrival at the Washington Hilton on Saturday, as the dinner had place.

Footage shows members of the climate group, called Climate Defiance, shouting and inciting members of the Metro Police while moving to block an official vehicle carrying one of the many politicians or media personalities the dinner draws.

The planned dinner draws a wide array of celebrities and media moguls to Washington, with some of the high-profile attendees seen arriving including Senate Leader Chuck Schumer, Vice President Harris and the president himself.

Reality TV stars were also heavily represented this year, with notables like Lisa Vanderpump and Chrissy Teigen both seen in the ballroom where the event takes place each year.

Protesters formed a blockade hoping to prevent their entry – an effort that proved largely unsuccessful at 9.45pm, with dinner going on for two hours.
