Rooting out FGM in rural Uganda

When Priscilla Nangiro learnt about this programme and attended a education session, she learnt about the consequences of FGM on ladies and gals and understood the implications for the very first time. She made the decision to prevent practising FGM and targeted alternatively on her business enterprise, selling indigenous (Pokot) outfits and equipment.

“Through teachings about the potential risks of dangerous cultural methods like FGM, I have learnt a whole lot. I truly feel inspired, which was not the case just before,” suggests Nanagiro, who is fully commited to root out FGM from her group.

“SASA! Together” triggers communities to take a look at the electrical power imbalances between adult males and girls in their personal lives and within their communities, which underpin gender-primarily based violence, such as FGM,” explains Anne Gamurorwa, Government Director of CDFU. “CDFU has educated and is doing work with a group of 60 group activists in Uganda under this programme (33 of whom are male and 27 are female). Nangiro is one particular of the community activists and proud about her new path.
