Simone Ashley just made her music video debut in ODESZA’s “Love Letter”

When ODESZA, Bridgertonand Cobra Kai collide, you get Simone Ashley blasting Karate Kid to the sound of ODESZA’s latest single “Love Letter (feat. The Knocks)”.

In the dreamy new music video directed by Dan Brown, Bridgerton Leading Lady Simone portrays Iyla, a dancer facing the woes of a working artist – a grueling cycle of rejection. Iyla is seen holding envelopes from dance conservatories, hopeful until she reads the short, agonizing lines, ‘your application has not been successful’ and ‘we regret to inform you of this’. Iyla dances, literally pushing through frustration as the defiant lyrics of “Love Letter” repeat the chant: “You can’t break my heart / ‘Cause I’ve never been in love.”

It’s while Iyla is fed up with shredding rejection letters on the roof of her apartment when Yuji Okumoto, who stars in Cobra Kai like Chozen Toguchi, magically appears. Student… meet the master.

As ODESZA’s beat drops, Iyla goes full throttle Karate Kid with his new sensei, even practicing catching fish at the Cobra Kaiit’s Miguel. And just like that, Iyla embarks on a montage of different professions, ambitiously trying her hand at everything from martial arts and chess to bartending, paddleball and wrestling.

She even tries to contact extraterrestrial life, but receives the same message with each new pursuit: nice try, not good enough, no, not interested, no thanks. But the resistant Iyla refuses to give up until she gets a yes, until she regains her power. The music video is a fun, psychedelic vision that captures the hopeful heart of the record.
