STMicroelectronics inaugurates its new production line

The new production line of electronic components of STMicroelectronics (ST) was stopped on Tuesday at its site in Bouskoura, during a ceremony given by the Minister of Industry and Trade, Ryad Mezzour. With an investment of 2.4 billion dirhams (MMDH) since 2020, this extension project of ST, which includes an expansion of the production area by an area of 7500 m², will ensure a major increase in production capacity and the creation of new jobs. More than 700 jobs, including 100 engineers, have already been created in one year and major recruitments are underway for the establishment of a new production line specializing in the manufacture of cutting-edge silicon carburetor products used in electric cars by the world’s leading automakers. On this occasion, Mr. Ryad Mezzour declared that “it is a real achievement for the national electronics industry that we are celebrating today. This new investment by ST in Bouskoura, the group’s second largest site in the world, occurs in a global context marked by the shortage of this type of electronic components for electric cars, forcing car manufacturers in particular to reduce their production rates. He added that it will enable Morocco to strengthen its position in the value chain of the automotive sector, as a privileged destination for cutting-edge international investments, particularly in electric mobility, and a precursor country in the electronics industry.

By producing competitive electronic components of world-class quality designed by mainly Moroccan skills, Morocco is making giant strides towards the realization of its industrial sovereignty and confirming its enormous development potential responding to new emerging needs such as the car. electricity, 5G, connected objects or Industry 4.0, underlined Mr. Mezzour.

For his part, the Executive Vice-President, Director of the Back-end Technology and Manufacturing organization at ST, Fabio Gualandris noted that the investments made to increase production capacity and improve facilities, as well as the significant recruitment in courses, underline the importance of the development of ST Bouskoura for the future growth of STMicroelectronics and its world leadership in products dedicated to the electrification of vehicles and the digital transformation of industrial companies.

Furthermore, Mr. Gualandris said that the ambitious growth plan for STMicroelectronics Bouskoura has been achieved thanks to the support of the ministry, local authorities and the National Agency for the Promotion of Employment and Skills (ANAPEC).

Specializing in the assembly and testing of electronic components, ST Bouskoura is one of the most advanced sites in the world in terms of automation and technology. It provides products that meet the highest quality requirements and contribute to STMicroelectronics’ leadership of products dedicated to the electrification of vehicles and the digital transformation of industrial companies. ST Bouskoura is also one of the main sites of the STMicroelectronics Group for the assembly and testing of its state-of-the-art silicon carburettor STPOWER products in large volumes, products integrated into the electric vehicles of the world’s leading car manufacturers, particularly in the main traction inverter and the deposited charger, as well as in the charging infrastructure.
