HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) – The two-day Monte Sano Art Festival brings nature and art together every year.

“The Monte Sano Art Festival is truly a special art festival,” said Danielle Hart, Arts Huntsville’s Manager of Development and Media Relations. “The feeling is different when you are here on the mountain and you are in nature. You appreciate art that is in nature and appreciate art in nature.

For more than two decades, local artists have gathered at the end of summer to sell their work at Monte Sano State Park. On Saturday and Sunday, the festival featured over 130 local and regional artists, food vendors and live musical performances.

Susan Coe, an art vendor selling pottery, said this year’s festival had many visitors.

“You have a lot of enthusiastic people,” Coe said. “They love the art, they support the arts, and they attend shows like this.”

Many art forms were represented, including pottery, painting, glasswork, carpentry and photography.

“I think the Monte Sano Art Festival is special because of the artists who come,” said art saleswoman Melanie Pool. “Yes, you have painters and potters, but you also have steampunk artists, folk artists and carpenters. Everything you can imagine, you can find in Monte Sano.”

Funds raised when festival-goers passed through the gates of Monte Sano over the weekend will be used to support the state park system.
