Twitter goes wild for Robbie Williams as he dedicates ‘Angels’ to Warnie

Robbie Williams stole the show in the AFL Grand Final – before a ball was even kicked.

The former Take That man, dressed head-to-toe in hot pink, walked in Meat Loaf’s massive footsteps, but rather than slaughter his performance, Robbie nailed it with moments that were both uplifting and poignant.

“Hello, Australia,” he began. “I’m Robbie Williams. In the next twenty minutes, I’m going to be phenomenal…so you better be good!” He wasn’t wrong.

Robbie started with let me entertain you and continues in rock dj before dedicating his classic angels to what he called “one of Australia’s biggest rock stars – Shane Warne”.

Williams even joked about her song from her new album, stating “it’s a mandatory new song, we’ll get through this together” before proclaiming “back to the hits” when it was done.

He then paid tribute to John Farnham, currently recovering from cancer, by covering you are the voice and closed the show with a duet with Delta Goodrem, but long before that social media was already flooded with praise for the British pop star.

“Congratulations to 2022 Norm Smith Medalist Robbie Williams,” wrote one, while another said he was the “perfect choice” for the showpiece event.

“Big enough, nerdy enough, camp enough, cheeky enough. Everyone knows the words,” they wrote.
