Unreal coincidence! Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill’s IPL 2023 stats are incredibly similar

Shubman Gill has often been touted as India’s next big cricket star after Virat Kohli. Although there is still a long way to go before the prediction comes true, the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 has witnessed a stunning coincidence when it comes to the duo’s stats.

Kohli and Gill have played eight games each for their respective franchises – Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Gujarat Titans (GT). Their numbers, as they currently stand, are surprisingly similar.

In eight matches, Kohli scored 333 points, as did Gill. The coincidence does not end there. Both batters recorded a duck each. Gill was dismissed without scoring against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), while Kohli went down for a golden duck against Rajasthan Royals (RR), who were trapped in lb by Trent Boult.

We still haven’t finished. Both hitters have faced 234 balls apiece in their eight games so far. The incredible coincidence ends with their strike rates, which are exactly the same – 142.31.

On the middle front, the RCB hitter puts up better numbers than his GT counterpart. Kohli is averaging 47.57 at the moment and Gill is averaging 41.63. While the former has a best score of 82*, the latter recorded a best score of 67. While Kohli also has five half centuries under his belt, Gill has recorded three.

‘He’s got the touch, the class and the elegance’ – Ex-Pakistan captain on Kohli-Gill comparison

A number of former cricketers and fans have compared Gill to Kohli after the youngster’s heroics in recent months. Former Pakistani captain Ramiz Raja is also impressed with Gill’s talent and temperament.

Sharing his views on his YouTube channel, he said earlier this month:

“He has so much potential, he has so much time. He looks so naturally handsome when he plays. When it rolls, there is a curve on the stroke. He has plenty of time to play his shots. Doesn’t matter if he scores sideways, sideways, hook or pull, it’s so nice and clean.

“Many are predicting that he could be the next best drummer after Virat Kohli. He has the touch, class and elegance like Rohit Sharma. And his temper is quite strong. tormented the bowlers. When you see him, it looks like time has stood still. At such a young age, he already has records. The sky is the limit for him.

Overall, Gill appeared in 82 IPL matches, scoring 2233 carries at an average of 33.33 and a strike rate of 127.53.
