A fire has broken out at one of Australia’s largest detention centres, forcing inmates to jump from the facility in fear for their lives.
Emergency crews were called to Villawood Detention Center in Sydney’s west on Thursday morning following reports of smoke billowing from the facility.
Inmates could be seen jumping to safety from a second-story balcony, according to local residents.
The fire has since been extinguished.
Paramedics remain at the scene to treat firefighters and inmates for smoke inhalation
