[WATCH] Ecstatic Rohit Sharma hugs Dinesh Karthik after Team India wins Nagpur T20I

Indian team skipper Rohit Sharma was overjoyed after his side beat Australia by six wickets in the 2nd T20I at Nagpur on Friday (September 23) to tie the three-legged series 1-1.

Rohit ran to Dinesh Karthik, hugged him and patted him on the head, after the latter hit a six and a four to take the Men in Blue past the winning line.

The India captain led from the front in pursuit of 91 in a shortened game that was reduced to eight overs apiece. Rohit was named Player of the Match for his unbeaten 46 on just 20 balls.

After DK picked up the winning points, the Hitman was understandably satisfied as he was under pressure following the team’s recent defeats in the T20I format. BCCI’s official social media handles have shared a video of Rohit celebrating with DK after India’s series win. The clip was shared with the caption:

“Captain @ImRo45 reaction. Crowd cheer. @DineshKarthik smile. Relive the mood as #TeamIndia sealed a series level win at Nagpur #INDvAUS.

Bowling first after winning the toss, India conceded 90 for 5 in their eight overs as Matthew Wade hit an unbeaten 43 on 20 balls.

For the hosts, left-arm spinner Axar Patel stood out with numbers of 2 for 13. Pacer Harshal Patel, however, once again proved costly, netting 32 runs in his two overs.

“I’m glad it happened” – Rohit Sharma on his winning move

Speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, the India captain admitted he was a bit surprised at the quality of the ball on the bat. Sharing his thoughts on his game-winning shot, he said:

“It’s good to hit like that, but it was an 8 over game, so you have to take a chance. I’m glad it came out. Honestly, for 8-9 months, I’ve been playing like this.

“For me it didn’t really change much, but again when you’re playing a game like this you can’t plan too much. You just have to understand the situation and try to use the conditions to your advantage.” he added.

Reflecting on the Indian team’s bowling performance, he said it was good for the most part, until the dew came at the end. Rohit commented:

“I felt the bowlers had something to offer and we used the conditions pretty well but at the back the dew started to come in and the guys weren’t able to grab the ball, it’s why you saw weird Harshal full throws.”

The decisive T20I of the India-Australia series will be played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Sunday.
